Chaffinches - Year 2

Welcome to Chaffinch Class.

The first term has got off to a great start with our theme 'Walk the Plank.' The children have taken part in a pirate-tastic launch day and are very much looking forward to the exciting times ahead.

Look out for our first piece of homework coming home on Friday.

What an amazing RE lesson!

Today in Religious Education we were thinking about how Christians say thank you for creation. We decided that one way was to say grace before meals. We made up our own thank you prayers to say before meals and performed them to the class. Some groups even sang them or made them rhyme. Over the next few weeks we will choose different thank you prayers to say before lunch.

Well done everyone for a super lesson.

What amazing homework! The children worked so hard on their pirate ships and here are just some of the amazing work that was produced! Well done.

As part of our topic we made pirate ships. We then made predictions about if they would float or sink and tested them outside. We had great fun!

We wrote messages pretending to be one of Blackbeard's crew marooned on an island. We put them into bottles, hoping people will find them!

This week we painted things that we might put into a Harvest Basket. Well done Chaffinches. Your work looks lovely together.

This week in maths we have been learning about 3d shapes. We made shapes out of playdough and matched 2d shapes to the 3d shape faces. Well done everyone

We had our Great Fire of London Launch day. There were some great costumes. The children wrote brilliant questions about the fire and sang 'London's Burning' in three parts! Well done Chaffinches!

As a class we made a poppy wreath for our remembrance assembly in school. We wrote a prayer to thank God for all the soldiers who died.

This week we drew poppy pictures on the computer. Here are some of the pictures that we drew.

Some children have begun bringing in their homework for this week. We have already had an amaing model of London and a poster comparing fire equipment from 1666 to now.

As part of our topic we had great fun making bread rolls. The kitchen baked them at lunchtime for us then we ate them!

This week Reverand Ian came to talk to KS1 about the signs of Christmas. He brought in the nativity figures and Advent wreath. he also wore his advent and Christmas robes to show us. This visit really helped our writing.

During the long weekend Ethan went to London. He climbed the Great Fire of London monument and went to the London museum. He even tried on a fire helmet from 1666. Thank you Ethan for sharing this with us.
