Welcome to Buttons ABC Nursery

From September 2026, Archbishop Courtenay Primary School is delighted to open its very own nursery, Buttons ABC, previously known as Spurgens Buttons ABC.

Buttons ABC provides high-quality childcare and early education for children aged 2–4 years. Our nursery offers a welcoming, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, explore, make friends and develop their confidence and independence.

We believe that children learn best when they are happy, engaged and having fun. Our carefully planned environment provides children with opportunities to explore, investigate, create and learn through play.

Our Early Years Curriculum

For each of your children, we support their individual learning and development using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Development Matters guidance.

The EYFS curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning:

• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Physical Development
• Communication and Language
• Mathematics
• Literacy
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

Within each area of learning, there are six developmental age bands, alongside the Early Learning Goals that children work towards at the end of the Reception year.

We use this guidance alongside our knowledge of each individual child to identify their strengths, celebrate their achievements and plan appropriate next steps in their learning.

Our children will be provided with a wide range of stimulating, purposeful and fun experiences, both indoors and outdoors. Through play, exploration and positive relationships, children will develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need for their next steps.

We offer a range of sessions to help families find childcare that works for them.

*Full-day sessions require children to bring a packed lunch.

Early Education Funding

We accept 2, 3 and 4-year-old Free Early Education Government Funding and Tax-Free Childcare.

3 and 4-year-olds

All children are entitled to 15 hours of funded early education from the term following their third birthday.

Some families may also be eligible for extended funding of up to 30 hours per week, depending on their circumstances and eligibility.

2-year-olds

Some two-year-olds are eligible for funded early education from the term following their second birthday. Eligibility criteria apply.

At Buttons ABC, we accept:

• Working Parent 2-year-old funding
• Disadvantaged 2-year-old funding
• 3 and 4-year-old funding
• Extended funding of up to 30 hours

Funding eligibility and the number of hours available can depend on your individual circumstances.

Applying for Reception

We are very excited to welcome our nursery children into the Archbishop Courtenay community. However, attendance at Buttons ABC Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception class.

Parents will still need to apply for a Reception place through the usual primary school admissions process, and places will be allocated in accordance with the school's published admissions arrangements.

We are incredibly excited about this new chapter for Archbishop Courtenay and look forward to welcoming our youngest children into Buttons ABC.
