L.I. Use lines of longitude and latitude or grid references to find the position of different geographical areas and features
Have a look at the maps below. What are the showing? How do you know?
See if you can identify where you live on the map. Can you find the grid reference to this using Map 1? (Remember along the corridor and up the stairs). Can you find where your friends live? Are you in the same grid reference?
Map 1 is called an Ordinance Survey Map. It show where everything is using symbols. The symbols are in the document below with a key on the last page. Can you find them on the map?
Task:
Cut the symbols out and place them face down in a pile. Choose the top symbol and with a partner/your family, have a competition to see who can find the symbol first. If you can't cut them out, challenge each other to find a symbol that you pick. (Bare in mind that not all of the symbols will be on the map). Have fun!
