2 Same but Different

Session 2

Read the following quotation:

Share our similarities, celebrate our differences.

M. Scott Peck

I wonder what this means to you.

Thinking about people, our communities where we live and our school community, how important is diversity to you? How would you define diversity? You might want to look the word up if you are not sure.

Think about the person who comes after you in the register (or before you if you are the last person).

Think of 3 things that are similar or the same about you and that person.

Think of 3 things that are different about you and that you person.

Imagine if everyone was exactly the same (clones) ... what would life be like?

Same but different

Look at the two shapes. What is the same? What is different?

Copy the diagram below

Which of these changes are positive?

Which are negative?

Has anything stayed the same that you would like to change?

One of the benefits of coming to school is that it gives us security. We know the people well and we are familiar with our class and the routines. The same could be said about staying at home - we feel secure in our home and we know those we live with.

Which things about staying at home have remained the same?

Which things about staying at home are different?

How has the Covid-19 pandemic affected international travel?

When the pandemic is over, what do you think will be the same around the world and

what do you think will be different? Think about ...

Reflect
