Term 3 Topic: Polar Zones

This term our learning will focus on the frozen landscapes of the North and South Poles, the humans and animals that live there, the countries and seas that share boarders with each area and the exploration of both geographical North and South Poles over the last 150 years.

Polar Day and Night

Have a look at the PDF document below which looks at the day and night in the Polar regions. Then watch the video which explains how the Earth's rotation effects the night and day of the Polar regions. 

YOUR LAST TASK!

Using all of the information above, can you explain how Polar Day and Nights occur? Use diagrams if you wish to help you with your explanation. Please send this work to your teacher via TEAMS or email. 

Week 1 6.01.2021

Use globes, atlases and google maps to find and name both polar regions and other significant geographical features of the world. Make a simplified global map on paper showing the locations of these features. Add a key for information. Identify and record the longitude and latitude of both polar regions, specifically the geographic North Pole and South Pole.

Note: Before adding detail, children could trace the basic outlines and positions of countries and continents. They could add detail and labels, using existing maps as a guide and reference.
