RE

Week beginning: 14.12.20

Our big question for R.E this term is ‘Why do Christians perform Nativity plays at Christmas?’. In our R.E lessons we have been learning about the story of the first Christmas. Can you remember why the first Christmas was so special? Watch this short video for a recap: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/lets-celebrate-christmas-story?collection=christmas  or you can read the story here: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/christmas/nativitystory.aspx

Today we are going to be thinking about: What Christians do at Church at Christmas? If I were to show you candles, a card and a cake, what special time do you think it would be? That’s right a birthday!! What do we do when it is someone’s birthday? Every year Christians celebrate Jesus’ birthday on Christmas day. At Church people sing carols, light candles and even perform nativity plays.

We were going to be performing our Nativity play ‘Whoops-a-Daisy Angel’. For today’s task I would like you to either draw a picture of who you are in our play (angel, shepherd, king, snowflake, Mary, Joseph, Camel). Maybe you could write a sentence about what you do in our nativity play, for example if you are snowflake ‘I do a special snowflake dance’, if you are an angel ‘all the angels sing a song.’ If you are the Kings ‘I take a present to baby Jesus’.

Term 2

This term are theme for R.E is 'Incarnation' and our big question for the term is: Why do Christians perform Nativity plays at Christmas?

Firstly, think about Christmas and why it is a special time? What traditions do we have? Can you think about Christmas trees, what do we put on them to decorate them? What do we put at the top of the trees?

I wonder...why do we put stars or Angels on the top of our Christmas trees?

Let's listen to the story of the first Christmas: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/presenters-nativity-story?collection=christmas

Listen for these words; Jesus, God, Mary, Joseph, Angels, Shepherds, Kings, Gifts, Bethlehem.

Have a go at writing these words.

Your activity is to create your very own Nativity characters, here are some examples:

Week beginning 9th November.

This week we are focusing on Remembrance Sunday. We will be giving thanks for the sacrifices made by all the men and women who fought in the First and Second World Wars. We will also give thanks to the Armed Forces who continue to protect us today. have a look at the video below to help you learn a little bit more.

"Poppies" on CBeebies - Children's Remembrance Day 2 Minutes' Silence Alternative

Instead of 2 minutes' silence, CBBC and CBeebies broadcast this 2 minute animation called "Poppies", showing war from the animals' points of view. Beautifull...

Week beginning 2nd November 2020

This week in RE we will be learning the parable of the Two Builders. Have a look at the video below. Can you see that the house built on the rocks is like our school? It is a safe place for everyone and we are always ready to support each other and welcome everyone!

To cement our understanding of the story, we will be using different construction materials to build our own houses. We will use Lego, natural materials (sticks and stones) and building blocks. We will work with others to represent the supportive and loving nature of our school.
