Lesson 12

Lesson 12: write in role as a character

In this lesson you will:

  • describe an incident from a different perspective
  • develop an understanding of character's behaviour
  • use recount and emotions & feelings in a diary entry

By this stage, you should have read up to end of Part 6: August  (North Pole to The Ending). If you haven't, you need to read that now. You will find the text in Lesson 11 and you can listen here.

Read Part 7: Miranda (Camp Lies to After the Show). You can listen here.

In class, we would usually take time to talk about Miranda. Think about what she is like as a person and draw a spidergram / mind-map that includes the following:

  • How has the way that you perceive her changed, having read this section?
  • How did she treat Via? What do you think about that?
  • I wonder why Miranda lied about being Auggie's sister? Why do you think she did that - what made her want to do that? What are your thoughts about this?

Write a diary entry for Miranda, on the evening she told the lie, exploring her reasons for the lie, her feelings towards both Auggie and Via and implications  she can see of having told this lie.

Read The Fifith-Grade Nature  Retreat  to Day One  before next session
