Think about the story up to ‘quite safe’. Who is speaking on each page? How do we know when characters are speaking in a book we are reading? Let's read this page in the story and when you see where speech marks are used I'd like you to do the speech marks action with two fingers on each hand.
Discuss: Read on to the page where the Giant says “I can’t even read my poetry books because the print is too small.” What do you think the Giant is really thinking here?
Task: Look at the thoughts you wrote in yesterday's lesson and try to transfer them into what the character says. Sometimes this might be the same to what they are thinking and sometimes it might be different. e.g. if Jim thinks ‘I am terrified that the Giant is going to eat me’, he might say “I’m really pleased to meet you, Mr Giant! Can I get you something to eat?”.
Have a go at writing some speech sentences for each to the three main events in the story. Will the words the characters say be the same as those they speak at each point in the story?

Today we are going to be looking at the frieze picture to identify the Easter story in the big Frieze.
Look at the frieze picture, discuss what you can see with your adult at home.
Label the picture or write a paragraph explaining what you can see in the picture, what do they think the picture is all about?
